What Are HEPA Filters & Why Are They Important To Commercial Cleaning

When looking for commercial vacuum cleaners for your business, an important thing to consider is the technology that goes into making your vacuum efficient and the right tool for your property. One of the most commonly discussed features for a vacuum cleaner is the the filter. HEPA filters are highly recommended because of their efficiency. In fact, HEPA stands for high efficiency particulate air. This filter can help prevent dust, pollen, dirt, bacteria, and other airborne particles from getting into the air. Here at Bissell Commercial we sell many different great vacuums that use these filters. If you are looking for a vacuum for your business, please give us a call, or read on to learn more about these filters.

How Do HEPA Filters Work?

HEPA filters are a pleated mechanical air filter. The United States Department of Energy created the acronym HEPA to describe air filters that can remove up to 99.97% of small airborne particles. HEPA filters trap particles that are down to 0.3 microns in size. This means very small particles like pollen, dust, pet dander, dirt, or other airborne elements are trapped effectively in HEPA filters. This can prevent the spread of airborne illnesses, allergens, and improve the overall air quality of a property. That said, in order for a HEPA filter to work, it needs to be cleaned and replaced according to the the manufacturer’s instructions.

How Do You Know When It Is Time To Replace A Vacuum Filter

A HEPA filter should be checked routinely. It is recommended by many vacuum companies that a HEPA filter used in a commercial space be checked once every six months and fully replaced on a yearly basis. Residential vacuums can usually go two to three years without needing a change, but the larger and more demanding cleaning requirements for an office or commercial space will require more frequent maintenance. Aside from being proactive and checking/replacing your filter routinely, there are some signs that your filter might need to be replaced. If there is a musty or moldy odor coming from your vacuum, it is likely that the filter needs to be exchanged.
